Don’t Assume Your Staff Knows More than It Does
In considering top priorities that schools and districts must consider when looking at moving forward with a new initiative too often does an organization fail to consider the skill sets that it’s current staff possesses. Desired outcomes can not be reached if those in charge of those goals do not have the knowledge to carry them out. Training staff on new methodologies and skills takes time, money and resources. If these are not amenities that can be provided, alternatives measures need to be considered. Far too often an initiative is pursued without considering the breadth of knowledge that an organization’s personnel may have on the topic. Know matter how much research and planning goes into this new direction, if a staff is not comfortable with the expertise that it requires it is doomed to fail.
